The topic of Britains oldest pub has been covered previously and we intend to investigate further the claims made by more than one old pub! The undisputed claim that Shepherd Neame is the oldest brewery has caused some interest in the beer making world. Beer makers throughout the UK have taken for granted that the beer makers of such favourites as SpitFire and Bishops Finger are truly the oldest brewery. However, there has emerged evidence that this claim by Shepherd Neame may be totally unfounded and that the brewery not only knew about this but did play a role in covering up the truth behind Britains Oldest Brewery.
The evidence has been uncovered by a Professor of Roman History with curious interest in real ale and beer making practices dating back to as early as the ancient Egyptians. Facinating as the plots through history are it is the bold claim made by anyone who is no older than 400 years old in a business going back to at least over 5000 years.
A brewery in the North of the UK have been advised of the findings and are now seeking legal advice to stake the true claim of Britains oldest brewery.
To be continued.
Regarless of the history dispute and who is the really the oldest beer maker or brewery, Shepherd Neame’s Bishop Finger is a tasty drop of beer and assured to provide you with a fuzzy head in the morning!
